Key Responsibilities

Subsurface Interpretation and Integration

  • Interpret 2D/3D seismic data using Petrel, DSG, and OpenWorks to define structural and stratigraphic frameworks, ensuring drilling targets are accurately positioned to avoid dry wells.
  • Integrate seismic attributes with well logs, core, and production data to improve reservoir characterization and reduce subsurface uncertainty for reliable development planning.
  • Map reservoir units, horizons, and fault networks to support static models and volumetric assessments, ensuring realistic reserves estimation for regulatory and investment decisions.
  • Perform depth conversion and velocity modelling to generate accurate structural maps and reduce drilling hazards and non-productive time.
  • Validate interpretations through peer reviews and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure technical integrity and consensus-based decisions.

Prospect Maturation and Opportunity Delivery

  • Identify, evaluate, and rank leads and prospects using GeoX, Petrel, and DSG, ensuring systematic risking and volumetric assessment before drilling decisions.
  • Contribute to a dynamic prospect inventory aligned with asset strategy.
  • Present technical evaluations to internal leadership and joint venture committees for evidence-based investment decisions.
  • Apply play-based exploration concepts to identify bypassed pay and near-field opportunities for additional reserve growth.
  • Provide geoscience assessments supporting investment decisions and protecting shareholder capital from unsuccessful drilling outcomes.

Operational and Well Planning Support

  • Prepare well planning analysis to identify geological targets and subsurface risks for safe and efficient well design.
  • Prepare geo-prognosis, drilling instructions, and geosteering inputs to optimize reservoir entry and improve well placement.
  • Provide real-time geophysical support during drilling to adjust operations based on subsurface conditions and reduce non-productive time.
  • Conduct post-well evaluations to update models and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Support cost-efficient drilling by refining predictions of reservoir tops, lithology, and fluid contacts.

Self Leadership and Technical Mentoring

  • Guide junior geoscientists and interns through technical reviews and daily oversight to ensure high-quality subsurface evaluations.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions and promote best practices for consistent technical workflows.
  • Align team objectives with asset priorities to ensure focus on high-impact exploration tasks.
  • Foster collaboration and constructive technical challenge to improve interpretation quality and reduce bias.
  • Provide mentoring, feedback, and development support for junior staff.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or a related field.

Certifications

  • Membership or certification with recognized geoscience or petroleum professional bodies (NAPE, NMGS, AAPG, SEG) is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ upstream oil and gas experience in exploration and field development.
  • Proven experience in sedimentological and structural interpretation, prospect maturation, and well planning in land and swamp environments.

Proven Experience In

  • Geological interpretation and reservoir characterization
  • Prospect generation, maturation, and volumetric assessment
  • Well planning and drilling support in swamp/nearshore terrains
  • Use of Petrel, GeoX, DSG, and OpenWorks
  • Collaboration with joint venture partners and regulators

Additional (Desirable)

  • Certification in Subsurface Risk Analysis is an advantage
  • Master’s Degree in Petroleum Geosciences is an added advantage
