Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations:
- Carry out routine and specialized laboratory investigations including hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and pregnancy-related tests.
- Ensure patient comfort during sample collection by clearly explaining procedures and properly positioning patients.
- Maintain quality control standards, equipment calibration, and infection prevention measures.
- Prepare accurate laboratory reports and promptly communicate critical findings to medical staff.
- Oversee laboratory inventory, reagent procurement, and equipment maintenance activities.
- Ensure rapid turnaround times for high-impact tests including prenatal screening and pre-operative investigations.
- Participate in internal quality control and external quality assessment programs while maintaining accurate laboratory documentation.
- Promote laboratory packages to patients and referring clinics while supporting clinicians in promoting antenatal and pre-operative diagnostic bundles.
- Assist with NHIS claims documentation for laboratory services.
- Provide clear and professional communication of laboratory results to clinicians and patients.
Hematology & Blood Transfusion Science (Core OBGYN):
- Conduct Complete Blood Count (CBC), Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Hematocrit, ESR, and hemoglobin electrophoresis tests.
- Perform blood grouping, cross-matching, Direct and Indirect Coombs tests, and coagulation profile testing including PT and APTT.
- Support management of pregnancy-related anemia, preeclampsia, and surgical blood loss.
Medical Microbiology & Parasitology:
- Perform malaria parasite identification using microscopy and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT).
- Conduct Widal tests and culture/sensitivity tests for blood, stool, and urine samples.
- Carry out HVS, ECS, and urine microscopy, culture, and sensitivity testing.
- Perform routine stool analysis and parasitology investigations.
Clinical Chemistry/Biochemistry:
- Conduct blood glucose testing, lipid profile analysis, electrolytes, urea, and creatinine investigations.
- Perform liver function tests, Oral Glucose Tolerance Tests (OGTT), HbA1c, and Serum Beta-hCG testing.
Serology & Immunology (Infection Screening):
- Carry out routine screening for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis.
- Perform specialized screening for Rubella and Toxoplasmosis.
Histopathology & Cytology:
- Conduct Pap smear testing for cervical cancer screening.
- Support tissue biopsy processing including fibroid and endometrial samples.
Key Responsibilities in Blood Banking (Nigeria Setting):
- Perform donor screening for HIV, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, and Malaria.
- Maintain blood storage refrigerators within 2°C to 6°C.
- Reconfirm recipient blood groups and perform compatibility testing and cross-matching.
Business Development & Patient Services:
- Generate at least 10 new patient referrals monthly through professional networks and community engagement.
- Conduct monthly health screening outreach programs in churches, corporate organizations, and communities.
- Deliver health education sessions on preventive care and disease management.
- Maintain relationships with referring physicians and healthcare providers.
- Participate in hospital marketing and promotional activities.
- Recommend additional laboratory tests and wellness packages to patients where appropriate.
- Ensure timely delivery of test results to strengthen patient satisfaction and service reputation.
Professional Excellence & Christian Values:
- Demonstrate patience, decisiveness, and attention to detail in laboratory procedures.
- Maintain ethical standards, professionalism, and patient confidentiality.
- Provide compassionate healthcare services that respect patient dignity and privacy.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs - Monthly)
- Test accuracy rate of at least 99.5%.
- Routine test turnaround time within 2 hours.
- Minimum of 10 new patient referrals monthly.
- Minimum of 200 community screening tests monthly.
- Patient satisfaction rating of at least 4.6/5.0.
- Full compliance with equipment maintenance schedules.
- Laboratory consumable cost control within 5% of budget.
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited Nigerian university.
- Registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
- Minimum of 2 years practical experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
- Certification in specialized laboratory areas such as hematology, microbiology, or clinical chemistry.
