Job Summary

  • Design of power distribution systems, lighting systems, grounding systems, and control systems for oil and gas facilities.
  • Development of electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical System Design:

  • Perform load calculations and voltage drop analyses.
  • Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, motors, and cables.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure electrical designs and installations comply with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, API) and safety regulations.
  • Conduct hazardous area classifications and design systems for safe operation in explosive environments.
  • Participate in safety studies such as HAZOP and risk assessments.

Project Execution:

  • Prepare technical specifications and bid documents for electrical equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Provide technical support during construction and start-up phases.
  • Review vendors’ documents.

Technical Documentation:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate electrical drawings, documents, and reports.
  • Develop operating and maintenance procedures for electrical systems.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with process, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to ensure integrated designs.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and clients.
  • Communicate technical information effectively.

Key Aspects in the Oil and Gas Context:

  • Design of electrical systems for hazardous and explosive environments.
  • Involvement in large-scale engineering projects requiring careful coordination.
  • Potential work in remote or offshore project locations.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • B.Sc or B.Eng in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • M.Sc is an added advantage.
  • COREN registration is mandatory.
  • 7–10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in large-scale EPC projects in the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience with onshore and offshore projects is highly desirable.
  • Ability to lead engineering teams and provide technical guidance.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong understanding of full project lifecycle (feasibility, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and start-up).
  • Experience coordinating electrical engineering activities across project phases.
