Job Summary

Mission

  • Manage and coordinate RF/BSS planning activities across assigned regions while supporting the implementation of cost-effective radio base station network design, planning, coverage, and capacity improvement strategies.
  • Support the achievement of MTNN’s annual network rollout objectives and overall business targets.
  • Ensure the implementation of business initiatives such as collocation and infrastructure sharing while coordinating the synchronization and integration of regional RF planning requirements into the central network strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Description

  • Approve high-level BTS site and Radio Base Station designs through the Integrated Network Planning and Works Authorization Processes.
  • Review nominal RF network plans for capacity and coverage to ensure alignment with marketing requirements and growth forecasts.
  • Track and monitor radio network and end-to-end BSS dimensioning, performance, and headroom plans in line with KPIs and quality targets defined in the NWG Annual Operating Plan.
  • Monitor processes and procedures to ensure compliance with planning best practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage radio network design to ensure sufficient capacity for subscriber forecasts and technology expansion.
  • Oversee the implementation of nationwide radio coverage and capacity rollout plans according to business objectives.
  • Monitor detailed RF designs prepared by regional teams to ensure compliance with central strategy and rollout plans.
  • Monitor network performance and configuration to ensure alignment with performance strategies and KPIs.
  • Manage implementation of the BSS network design strategy to ensure adequate capacity and support for technology evolution.
  • Ensure radio coverage and capacity designs comply with regulatory requirements for GSM rollout in Nigeria.
  • Attend Coverage Steercom Meetings to present rollout status, network performance reports, and participate in technical discussions.
  • Maintain knowledge and databases relating to competitors’ activities and the telecommunications environment.
  • Ensure low-level planning, monitoring, and performance testing are conducted and incorporated into rollout plans.
  • Ensure planning tools and resources are available for network analysis and planning activities.
  • Drive timely provision of transmission, site acquisition, and other dependencies required for BTS rollout programs.
  • Ensure RF project documentation and procedures are properly maintained and communicated across regions.
  • Develop radio coverage and capacity plans in line with business objectives defined by marketing.
  • Monitor global and local telecommunications industry trends to assess technological and regulatory impacts on MTN’s business operations.
  • Support the HOD in identifying specialist tools, equipment, and solutions for radio network enhancement initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education:

  • First Degree in Electrical / Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering or related fields
  • Fluent in English
  • MSc in Telecoms or equivalent will be an added advantage

Experience:

6 - 13 years’ experience which includes:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a specialised area with supervisory or management experience
  • Experience working in a medium to large organisation
  • Experience within an RF Planning and Optimization function in a dynamic telecommunications environment
  • Experience working on a multi-vendor network
  • Experience with Ericsson and Huawei equipment will be desirable
