DAAD Master of International and Development Economics, MIDE, Scholarship is a program available at HTW Berlin University of Applied Sciences in Germany. The MIDE Scholarship offers students from developing and transition countries the opportunity to undertake an 18-month full-time Master’s degree program in International and Development Economics.
HTW Berlin, the largest university of applied sciences in Berlin, Germany was founded in 1994. This scheme is designed to provide financial support to students interested in the economic challenges facing “third world” countries. It prepares these students to work in areas related to global economic affairs and development.
Candidates selected to participate in the DAAD MIDE Master’s program are expected to have a first degree in economics/business administration or related social sciences.
Tuition Fees in Germany
Public higher institutions in Germany are more affordable than their private counterparts. The tuition fees that students at public universities pay range from €100 to €350 per semester (bi-annual). However, the case is different at private institutions, as the tuition fees are typically between €5,000 and €20,000 per year.
Eligibility Criteria
Here are the requirements you must fulfill to be eligible for the annual DAAD MIDE Scholarship.
- Applicant must be a citizen of a developing country
- Applicant must have bachelor’s degree with 180 ECTS or equivalent
- Candidate must have at least 2 years of professional experience after graduation
- Candidate should have graduated more than six years ago
- Applicant must prove English language proficiency

Scholarship Benefits
Candidates selected for this scholarship will be awarded monthly stipend of €934 and travel allowance. The benefits include health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage. There may also be provision of monthly rent subsidy under certain circumstances.
