
The Government of Japan launched the Japan Study Support Scholarships for international students interested in pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in Japanese universities.
The scholarship provides up to 1,000,000 Yen as financial support towards tuition, living expenses, and accommodation for students in the first year of study after they have received admission from a university in Japan.
Applications will open soon. Recipients are required to submit periodic reports throughout their scholarship period (a few times per year). These reports may be posted on the JPSS website and/or published in one of the related information booklets.
Eligibility Criteria
These are the requirements you must fulfill to be eligible for the scholarship:
- Applicants must be non-Japanese citizens.
- Applicant must have been admitted to a Japanese university
- Candidate must register with Japan Study Support
- You should have received a message from the chosen university before acceptance.
- Applicant is required to have an interview in either Japanese or English.
- Applicant should have a personal Japanese bank account.

- Motivation Letter (350 English words or 800 Japanese characters)
- 30-seconds Introduction video
- Recipients must submit periodic reports a few times per year.
Scholarship Benefits
The Japan Study Support Scholarship selects three eligible candidates for the program. JPSS offers the beneficiaries between 100,000 yen and 500,000 yen after enrolling in their preferred Japanese university.
