Worker lands in trouble after using his boss’ N900k to play bet

A supermarket staff, Abiola Agbaje, has confessed to using his employer’s N900,000 to engage in gambling also known as sports betting.

The 23-year-old defendant was arraigned on Tuesday before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of the peace.

Police prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that Abiola took money belonging to his employer, Mr Yemi Liasu, without permission at No. 1, Rasaki Tijan Street, Igando, ikotun, Lagos on June 26.

The defendant pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him. According to Aigbokhan, the offences contravened Sections 168(d) and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, adjourned the case until July 12 for review of facts and sentencing.

A Nigerian man known on Twitter as @surmasantavious, has expressed disbelief on the microblogging platform after his brother lost his own school fees to sports betting.

He revealed that his father transferred the sum of N1.2 million for his elder sibling to settle his tuition and other items, but he used it to stake odds in e-betting and unfortunately lost everything.

The young man shared screenshots of the ticket that cut which were sent to him by his brother, but he noted that he does not know what to tell him.

He wrote; “Jesus. My dad sent 1.2m for my senior bro to clear his school fees and stuffs. He just messaged me now showing me lost ticket of 1.2m. I don’t even know what to reply him.”
