Job Summary

  • Under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Officer will oversee all NHF project activities within the assigned Local Government Area (LGA).
  • The role requires maintaining high levels of integrity, transparency, and commitment throughout project implementation.
  • Responsible for managing all nutrition-related activities for IRC-supported OTPs in the assigned LGA.
  • Oversees and supervises SMOH OTP staff and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs).
  • Reports directly to the Nutrition Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities

Program Management, Technical Quality, and Strategy

Nutrition program management:
  • Support planning and implementation of project activities to improve access to quality nutrition services.
  • Coordinate with LGA authorities and review technical reports from implementing partners.
  • Track project performance against targets and advise on implementation strategies.
  • Conduct periodic analysis of project progress and document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Identify program gaps in OTP services and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide capacity building and on-the-job coaching to facility staff on CMAM services and IYCF best practices.
  • Oversee quality nutrition program implementation across IRC-supported health facilities.
  • Design and lead assessments incorporating feedback from women and girls.
  • Ensure proper data collection, recording, and timely reporting of nutrition data.
  • Support reporting to SMOHs through LGA health authorities, including HMIS.
  • Ensure project visibility in line with consortium communication strategies.
  • Support collection of impact stories and project documentation.
  • Monitor OTP facility performance through regular field visits.
  • Track work plan progress and participate in review meetings.
  • Coordinate LGA needs assessments and capacity-building plans.
  • Serve as liaison between IRC, LGA, and implementing partners.
  • Promote collaboration between communities, government, and stakeholders.
  • Foster inter-program linkages and integrate protection and disaster risk reduction.
  • Collaborate with sectors such as Environmental Health, Health, Women Protection & Empowerment, and Child Protection.
  • Participate in proposal development, budgeting, and implementation tracking.
  • Develop and implement work plans aligned with grant objectives.
  • Coordinate routine reporting, including mid-term and final donor reports.
  • Conduct nutritional surveillance using various methodologies (SMART, LQAS, SQUEAC, etc.).
  • Support community-based management of acute malnutrition and follow-up care.
  • Coordinate CHV training programs and curriculum development.
  • Assist in emergency nutrition response and disaster preparedness planning.
  • Promote infant and young child feeding practices.
  • Oversee growth monitoring and MUAC screenings at community level.
  • Participate in research, assessments, and documentation of best practices.
  • Monitor and supervise IRC and MOH staff performance.
  • Provide staff feedback and oversee training programs.
  • Address personnel issues and support recruitment processes.
  • Monitor procurement and use of project resources.
  • Evaluate project implementation against objectives and frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities for program development.
  • Supervise nutrition staff directly.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Coordinator.

Key Deliverables

  • Provide regular project updates, including security and field visit reports.
  • Share updates on needs assessments and capacity-building plans.
  • Develop success stories highlighting project impact.
  • Report security changes affecting implementation and staff safety.
  • Support project visibility strategies.
  • Report challenges, gaps, and proposed solutions.
  • Facilitate data flow for reporting processes.

Program Development / Grant Management

  • Contribute to proposal design, planning, and drafting.
  • Support donor reporting requirements.
  • Develop and review expenditure plans and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures and donor requirements.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of all reports.

Staff Performance Management, Learning & Development

  • Hire, supervise, and build team capacity.
  • Implement remote management capacity-building approaches.
  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate staff performance.
  • Maintain professional relationships and promote teamwork.
  • Manage attendance, leave, and timesheets.
  • Conduct regular performance meetings and reviews.
  • Provide staff development plans and career guidance.
  • Address performance issues with HR support.
  • Promote staff well-being and work-life balance.
  • Support staff career growth and succession planning.
  • Ensure compliance with IRC HR policies and procedures.

Research, Learning and Analysis

Monitoring Nutrition program implementation:

  • Monitor project implementation and provide on-the-spot support.
  • Conduct regular data analysis and prepare action reports.
  • Provide technical oversight in data interpretation.
  • Promote integrated programming for greater community impact.

Coordination & Representation

  • Represent IRC to local government and partner agencies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including NGOs and government actors.
  • Attend relevant meetings and represent IRC priorities.
  • Facilitate field visits for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

Education:

  • Health professional qualification (Nutrition and Dietetics, MD, or RN with MPH preferred).
  • Strong background in nutrition.
  • High level of professionalism, discipline, and integrity.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in nutrition program management and implementation.
  • Proven experience in team leadership and staff management.
  • Experience in outbreak response interventions.
  • Ability to work with displaced populations and diverse communities.
  • Experience in donor reporting and proposal development.
  • Knowledge of financial, HR, and logistics management.

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

  • Experience in situation analysis, health assessments, monitoring and evaluation, and program implementation.

Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies:

  • Experience in remote management.
  • Flexible, diplomatic, and able to work under pressure.
