Job Summary
- Under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Officer will oversee all NHF project activities within the assigned Local Government Area (LGA).
- The role requires ensuring integrity, transparency, and commitment in project implementation.
- Responsible for managing all nutrition-related activities across IRC-supported OTPs in the assigned LGA.
- Will supervise SMOH OTP staff and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and report directly to the Nutrition Manager.

Key Responsibilities
Program Management, Technical Quality, and Strategy
Nutrition program management:
- Support planning and implementation of project activities at field level to improve access to quality nutrition services.
- Coordinate with LGA authorities and review technical reports from implementing partners.
- Track project performance against targets and recommend improvements to ensure objectives are met.
- Conduct periodic progress analysis at LGA level and promote learning through documentation of best practices.
- Identify gaps in OTP services and implement corrective actions.
- Provide capacity building and on-the-job coaching for facility staff in CMAM and IYCF practices.
- Oversee quality implementation of nutrition programs in IRC-supported facilities.
- Lead assessments ensuring inclusion of women and girls’ perspectives in program design.
- Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and timely generation of nutrition reports.
- Support facility-level reporting through LGA health authorities and HMIS systems.
- Ensure project visibility in line with communication strategies.
- Collect stories and visual evidence demonstrating project impact.
- Monitor performance of supported facilities through regular field visits.
- Track work plan progress and participate in review meetings with LGAs and partners.
- Coordinate needs assessments and capacity-building plans.
- Act as liaison between IRC, LGAs, and implementing partners.
- Promote collaboration among communities, government structures, and stakeholders.
- Foster inter-program linkages and contribute to protection and disaster risk reduction integration.
- Collaborate with sectors such as Environmental Health, Health, Women Protection & Empowerment, and Child Protection.
- Participate in proposal development, budgeting, and implementation tracking.
- Develop and manage nutrition work plans aligned with grant objectives.
- Coordinate project reporting, including mid-term and final reports.
- Conduct nutritional surveillance using methodologies such as SMART, LQAS, and SQUEAC.
- Support community-based management of acute malnutrition and follow-up care.
- Coordinate CHV training programs and curriculum development.
- Assist in managing nutrition emergencies and disaster preparedness initiatives.
- Promote infant and young child feeding best practices.
- Oversee growth monitoring and MUAC screenings at community level.
- Participate in research, surveys, and KAP assessments.
- Supervise IRC and MOH staff to ensure efficient performance.
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback.
- Oversee staff training programs and coordinate with consultants.
- Address personnel issues and support solutions.
- Participate in recruitment processes when required.
- Monitor procurement and use of project materials and supplies.
- Evaluate project implementation against objectives and frameworks.
- Identify opportunities for program expansion and development.
- Directly supervise nutrition staff.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Coordinator.
Key Deliverables
- Provide regular project updates including security situations, field reports, and training reports.
- Share updates on assessments and capacity-building outcomes.
- Develop success stories highlighting project impact.
- Report security changes affecting implementation and staff safety.
- Support visibility strategies for project awareness.
- Report challenges, gaps, and proposed solutions.
- Ensure effective data flow and reporting processes.
Program Development / Grant Management
- Contribute to proposal design, planning, and drafting.
- Support donor reporting requirements.
- Develop and monitor expenditure plans and budget utilization.
- Ensure compliance with IRC financial procedures and donor requirements.
- Oversee timely submission of all internal and donor reports.
Staff Performance Management, Learning & Development
- Recruit, supervise, and build team capacity.
- Develop remote management strategies for team strengthening.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and structured performance feedback.
- Maintain professional team relationships and strong team spirit.
- Manage attendance, leave, and timesheet processes.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and performance reviews.
- Implement development plans and career growth initiatives.
- Address performance issues in collaboration with HR.
- Promote staff well-being and work-life balance.
- Support staff career development and succession planning.
- Ensure compliance with IRC HR policies and standards.
Research, Learning and Analysis
Monitoring Nutrition program implementation:
- Monitor project implementation and provide real-time support to field teams.
- Conduct regular data analysis and follow-up actions.
- Provide technical oversight in data interpretation.
- Promote integrated programming for improved community impact.
Coordination & Representation
- Represent the program to local government and partner agencies.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, NGOs, and partners.
- Attend relevant meetings and represent IRC priorities.
- Facilitate field visits for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
- Health professional qualification (Nutrition and Dietetics, MD, or RN with MPH preferred) with strong nutrition background.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ability to work independently under pressure.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in managing and implementing nutrition programs.
- Experience in team leadership and staff management.
- Experience in outbreak response interventions.
- Ability to work with displaced populations across diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in donor reporting and proposal development.
- Experience in general management including finance, HR, and logistics.
Demonstrated Technical Skills:
- Experience in situation analysis, health assessments, monitoring & evaluation, and program implementation.
Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies:
- Experience with remote management.
- Strong flexibility, diplomacy, and ability to work under pressure.
