Job Summary
The hospital is seeking a qualified Medical Records Officer responsible for collecting new patients’ information, uploading records to the EMR system, properly filing hard copies, and maintaining accurate and quality medical records in line with hospital procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect patient demographic and personal information and input data into the EMR
- Review patient records for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
- Post patients’ files to the appropriate department for care assessment
- Manage the generation, preservation, and retrieval of medical records
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive medical records are available at all times
- Compile monthly medical statistical reports for statutory and reporting purposes
- Maintain confidentiality and protection of all medical records
- Ensure patients are billed appropriately and confirm payments are made to the cashier
- Verify that bills correspond with treatments provided
- Ensure HMO patients receive appropriate coding or are treated as private patients where coverage does not apply
- Perform any other officially assigned duties
Requirements & Qualifications
- HND or BSc in Medical Records from a recognized institution
- HMO experience is required
- Valid practicing license from the relevant professional body
