Job Summary

Shell Petroleum Development Company is recruiting an experienced Marine Engineer to support the safe operation of offshore oil and gas development activities in Nigeria. The role involves maintaining marine equipment, supporting marine operations, and contributing to technical integrity and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain life saving equipment, hull, main deck, and utilities equipment
  • Support the Marine Supervisor in daily operational activities
  • Maintain cargo loading and ballasting systems
  • Maintain cargo sampling and metering systems
  • Maintain Mooring Hawser and cargo hoses
  • Perform general shipboard duties
  • Diagnose defective equipment and provide remedial solutions
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with onshore marine and safety teams
  • Monitor contractor performance offshore and maintain required documentation for contracts
  • Ensure FPSO hull machinery and equipment operate efficiently to support operations and utilities
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on rotating equipment and utilities in the hull and main deck
  • Conduct inspections of rotating equipment and utilities including generators, sewage systems, fresh water generators, cargo pumps, hydraulic power pack systems, fire pumps, deck valves, OWS, Nakakita, HVAC equipment, inert gas generator, nitrogen generator, Framo system, and life saving equipment
  • Support pollution prevention checks and maintenance activities
  • Maintain logs and record books documenting system compliance and operational conditions
  • Inspect and maintain life saving and fire prevention equipment
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of fuel and lubricating oil and purifying equipment
  • Follow company emergency response procedures

Cargo Handling Systems

  • Oversee inert gas generator operations to maintain safe cargo tank pressure
  • Serve as Permit to Work Area Authority for marine systems, cranes, lifeboats, escape systems, cargo handling, and tank management systems
  • Act as deputy for the Asset Operator under the permit to work system
  • Ensure safety equipment and systems remain operational

Ballast Handling Systems

  • Ensure safe and efficient ballasting and de ballasting operations
  • Maintain ballast handling systems and equipment

Offtake Systems

  • Maintain operational readiness of the SPM buoy
  • Inspect, test, and support replacement of offtake hoses and mooring hawser lines according to SNEPCo requirements
  • Ensure safe deployment, use, and recovery of offtake systems
  • Maintain availability of spare offtake equipment

Tank Management

  • Ensure tank atmosphere monitoring equipment is functional
  • Supervise tank cleaning activities
  • Supervise tank entry operations

Safety Management

  • Support maintenance of the Safety Case and implementation of Safety Management System and SEAM standards
  • Audit and monitor activities listed in the Safety Management System Activity Catalogue

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Valid Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency. Second Engineer Unlimited certificate may be accepted with relevant experience
  • Engineering degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical discipline is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 10 years sea time, preferably on FPSO, FSO, or crude oil tankers including VLCCs
  • Experience operating crude oil terminals and Single Point Mooring buoys is an advantage
  • Competency in emergency management, permit to work, and work management systems
  • Knowledge of corporate safety and environmental procedures and terminal crude oil and ballast handling practices
  • Experience with submerged FRAMO pumping systems and inert gas generators
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
