Job Summary
The role is suited for a dynamic and self motivated Marine Engineer who wants to contribute to the safe operation of offshore oil and gas development in Nigeria. The position focuses on maintaining life saving equipment, hull systems, main deck and utilities equipment, while supporting the Marine Supervisor in daily operational activities.
The role also involves contributing to technical integrity targets, operating equipment within design limits, participating in the SNEPCo competence assurance scheme, and progressing toward defined competence levels. The position supports safe Bonga Marine field operations by diagnosing faulty equipment, reporting issues, and providing corrective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Job Description
- Safely and efficiently maintain life saving equipment, hull systems, main deck and utilities equipment
- Support the Marine Supervisor in daily operational duties
- Contribute to achieving technical integrity targets while operating equipment within design limits
- Participate in the SNEPCo competence assurance scheme and work toward required competence levels
- Maintain cargo loading and ballasting systems
- Maintain cargo sampling and metering systems
- Maintain Mooring Hawser and cargo hoses
- Perform general shipboard duties
- Diagnose defective equipment and provide remedial solutions to support safe Bonga Marine operations

- Contribute to the operation of one of the largest FPSOs in the world while following strict budget control and minimum manning principles
- Work with FPSO facilities that include complex systems and technical processes
- Gain working knowledge of safety legislation, environmental procedures, and safety equipment
What is the Role?
- Establish and maintain functional relationships with Onshore Marine disciplines and safety teams
- Control expenditure and maintain correct documentation for contracts
- Monitor contractor performance offshore
- Ensure FPSO hull machinery and equipment operate efficiently to support Bonga operations and utilities
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on rotating equipment and utilities on the hull and main deck
- Conduct regular inspections of rotating equipment and utilities including generators, sewage systems, cargo pumps, hydraulic systems, fire pumps, HVAC systems, inert gas generator, nitrogen generator, FRAMO system, and lifesaving equipment
- Support HSE Coordinator and Marine Officers in pollution prevention checks
- Support Utility Technician in restoring machines and equipment in the hull when required
- Maintain logs and record books showing system compliance and operating condition
- Inspect lifesaving and fire prevention equipment regularly and ensure proper maintenance
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of fuel, lubricating oil, and purifying equipment to reduce leakages
- Follow company procedures for emergency situations
Cargo Handling Systems
- Oversee operation of the inert gas generator to maintain safe delivery and pressure in cargo tanks
- Serve as Permit to Work Area Authority for marine systems, cranes, lifeboats, escape systems, cargo handling, and tank management systems
- Act as nominated deputy for the Asset Operator under the permit to work system
- Ensure safety equipment and systems remain operational
Ballast Handling Systems
- Ensure ballasting and de ballasting operations are conducted safely and efficiently
- Ensure ballast handling systems and equipment are properly maintained
Offtake Systems
- Ensure SPM buoy operational readiness is maintained
- Inspect, test, and support change out of offtake hoses and Mooring hawsers according to SNEPCO requirements
- Ensure deployment, utilization, and recovery of offtake systems are carried out safely and efficiently
- Ensure availability of sufficient spares for offtake equipment
Tank Management
- Ensure tank atmosphere monitoring equipment is available and functioning
- Supervise tank cleaning activities
- Supervise tank entry operations
Safety management system and safety case
- Assist with maintenance of the Safety Case and implementation of the Safety Management System and SEAM standards on the installation
- Audit and monitor activities listed in the SMS Activity Catalogue
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency. Second Engineer Unlimited certificate may be accepted depending on relevant experience
- Engineering degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical discipline is an added advantage
- Minimum of 10 years sea time preferably on FPSO, FSO, or crude oil tankers including VLCCs
- Experience operating a crude oil terminal and Single Point Mooring buoys is an advantage
- Competency in managing major emergencies and permit to work and work management systems
- Knowledge of corporate safety and environmental procedures and terminal working practices in crude oil and ballast handling systems
- Hands on experience with submerged FRAMO pumping systems and inert gas generators
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
