Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Direction:

  • Develop and execute a clear long-term strategy to enhance competitiveness in both Nigerian and global oil and gas markets.
  • Lead corporate planning, capital investment strategies, and portfolio optimisation, including brownfield enhancements, debottlenecking, and field development initiatives.
  • Provide strategic direction across exploration, drilling, development, production, and late-life asset management to maximise value.

Operational & Financial Management:

  • Oversee end-to-end upstream operations to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-efficient production.
  • Manage financial processes including budgeting, forecasting, cost optimisation, and capital allocation.
  • Drive continuous improvement through technology adoption, predictive maintenance, and performance monitoring systems (KPIs, production efficiency, OPEX/BOE, uptime, and HSE metrics).

Regulatory, Compliance & Governance:

  • Ensure full compliance with petroleum laws and regulatory frameworks, maintaining transparent engagement with regulators.
  • Uphold strong corporate governance, internal controls, and ethical standards across the organisation and supply chain.
  • Ensure adherence to HSE standards, integrity management systems, and emergency preparedness protocols.

Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, JV partners, host communities, investors, suppliers, and offtakers.
  • Represent the company in industry forums, investor engagements, and partnership negotiations.
  • Promote transparent and mutually beneficial community relations and local content development.

Leadership, Culture & People Development:

  • Build and lead a high-performing executive team aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, performance excellence, innovation, and ethical conduct.
  • Drive talent development, succession planning, and organisational capability building across key functions.

Risk Management, HSE & ESG:

  • Identify and mitigate operational, financial, strategic, and reputational risks.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives covering environmental stewardship, safety, asset integrity, and social responsibility.
  • Embed ESG-aligned practices and ensure transparent reporting to support long-term value creation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • First Degree in Engineering or a related discipline; MBA or relevant Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively senior experience in the upstream oil and gas sector, including leadership of producing assets.
  • Strong technical knowledge of asset development, drilling and completions, facilities/production operations, and the petroleum lifecycle.
  • Proven experience managing regulatory relationships within Nigeria’s upstream environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in JV and multi-stakeholder management, including complex ownership structures.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering results in capital-intensive projects, contracting strategy, production optimisation, and cost management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Hands-on leadership style; experience in EPC, oilfield services, or smaller IOC environments is highly valued.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., SPE, COREN) are desirable.
  • High ethical standards and strong personal integrity.
