Job Summary
The Legal Officer will provide comprehensive legal advisory and compliance support to Hoop Telecoms Limited. The role focuses on telecommunications regulation, contract management, corporate governance, and dispute resolution, ensuring the company operates fully within Nigerian laws and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory and Compliance
- Provide legal guidance on telecom operations, infrastructure projects, and enterprise services
- Ensure compliance with NCC regulations, NITDA guidelines, labour laws, tax laws, and other applicable legislation
- Prepare and review regulatory filings, licences, permits, and statutory submissions
- Monitor changes in telecom and regulatory laws and advise management accordingly
Contract Drafting and Review
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including fibre deployment agreements, SLAs, lease and colocation agreements, vendor contracts, NDAs, MDAs, and partnership agreements
- Ensure all agreements protect the company’s interests and meet industry standards
Dispute Resolution and Litigation Management
- Manage disputes arising from telecom services, operations, and customer relationships
- Liaise with external solicitors and monitor ongoing litigation
- Prepare legal documentation, evidence, and case files
Corporate Governance
- Support board activities, including preparation of resolutions and statutory records
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance codes and internal policies
- Participate in legal and compliance audits and policy development
Operational Support
- Provide legal support to Sales, Technology, Finance, and HR teams
- Review proposals, tenders, and marketing materials for legal accuracy
- Support site acquisition, Right of Way matters, and infrastructure expansion
- Draft and manage legal correspondence and compliance notices
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Barrister at Law (BL)
- 4 to 5 years post-call experience
- Proven experience in a telecommunications company or telecoms-focused legal practice
- Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association
- Additional telecoms law certifications are an advantage
- Male candidates preferred for gender balance
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian telecom regulations and regulatory bodies
- Excellent understanding of contract, corporate, commercial, and labour law
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills
- High attention to detail and strong research ability
- Ability to explain legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
