Egbin Power Plc, located in Lagos, is one of the largest contributors to Nigeria’s electricity industry and is widely regarded as the biggest single generating power station in Sub-Saharan Africa. The power plant was established to meet the increasing demand for electricity in Lagos and surrounding areas.

Following Nigeria’s privatization exercise, Sahara, through its power division, Sahara Power Group and related affiliates, acquired the 1320 MW installed capacity Egbin Power Plant. The organization is working towards deploying a minimum of 5,000 MW of electricity generation within the next five years.

Job Summary

The Lead, Project Controls and QA/QC Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective project control frameworks to support successful project delivery. The role ensures that resources required for executing multiple cross functional engineering projects align with established control standards and governance requirements. The position also provides quality assurance support functions across projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the project control team including cost engineers, planners, and quality assurance and control personnel
  • Monitor and control program compliance with respect to project contractual obligations
  • Support and advise on the definition of project controls and earned value management policies, procedures, and standards
  • Support program integration, governance structures, planning optimization, and project control best practices
  • Provide guidance on planning variance, estimates at completion, and critical path analysis
  • Support the development of integrated master schedules using Primavera and or Microsoft Project that incorporate milestones and activity durations from multiple contractor schedules
  • Provide project controls management including baseline schedule development and management, performance status reporting, change control, risk management, and earned value management tools
  • Work closely with project managers, commercial managers, and quality assurance teams to enhance project performance
  • Support the development of requirements for resource loaded schedules
  • Ensure consistent application of project control processes across projects
  • Manage governance processes to ensure effective schedule performance and scope control across integrated programs involving multiple suppliers
  • Implement data protection policies and ensure compliance with NDPR and other relevant data protection laws
  • Conduct data protection impact assessments where necessary to manage risks associated with data processing operations
  • Ensure project controls teams produce weekly and monthly reports aligned with company reporting schedules covering progress, actuals, forecasts, and variance explanations
  • Develop and update project Lessons From Incidents (LFIs)
  • Follow up on project deviations and non conformances to ensure corrective actions are implemented and recurrence is prevented
  • Ensure the adoption of risk based thinking in project management processes
  • Provide recommendations to management on improvements and cost savings within the area of responsibility
  • Conduct surveillance and reviews at project sites to ensure quality standards are maintained
  • Oversee the health of the capital projects portfolio and contribute to the development and application of a project management system
  • Maximize project value through opportunity realization processes
  • Perform oversight quality functions on capital projects to ensure compliance with required quality standards
  • Ensure awareness and application of QHSE policy and integrate Integrated Management System requirements including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 into departmental processes
  • Engage contractors, departments, and personnel to identify hazards, risks, environmental aspects, and impacts associated with their roles
  • Ensure that the Integrated Management System achieves its intended results within departmental operations

Requirements & Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience in a similar role
  • Postgraduate certification in Project Management is required

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English

Soft Skills

  • Computer literacy
  • Proficiency with common business software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
