Key Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, provide on site supervision of the Directional Drilling (DD) process including projection of well path to predetermined target coordinates
- Understand principles of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection and aspects of DD performance and ensure BHA assemblies are completed as planned including correct make up torque, doping, and handling
- Use DD computer software and assist in providing advice and analysis to the client representative at the well site
- Perform survey calculations and well path projections
- Update well profile plots and provide the client representative with accurate directional survey data
- Maintain awareness of client requirements regarding surveying procedures
- Assist in completing daily DD reports, BHA performance reports for each BHA run, service tickets, and relevant documentation including well data spreadsheets, lessons learned or best practice records, End of Job Customer Survey (EJCS), and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) forms
- Maintain familiarity with DD aspects of the client’s approved drilling program
- Assist in inspecting all DD company equipment delivered to the work site and coordinate with the MWD engineer to ensure BHA compatibility, operating parameters within specification, and correct toolface references
- Maintain records of all DD equipment at the well site including dimensional data and condition
- Ensure equipment is laid out after use according to company procedures and prepared for backload at the end of the job
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three years of field experience in Directional Drilling, L/MWD, or SDL, including at least six months in DD
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret designed well plans, directional survey information, and other well site data
- Demonstrated technical aptitude to required standards
- Good communication, arithmetic, data entry, and recording skills
- Must possess relevant rig safety certificates
- This is a field position
