Key Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, provide on site supervision of the Directional Drilling (DD) process including projection of well path to predetermined target coordinates
  • Serve in a subordinate role on assigned jobs
  • Understand principles of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection and aspects of DD performance and ensure BHAs are assembled as planned including correct make up torque, doping, and handling
  • Use DD computer software and assist in providing advice and analysis to the client representative at the well site, including survey calculations and well path projections
  • Update well profile plots and provide the client representative with accurate directional survey data
  • Be aware of client requirements regarding surveying procedures
  • Assist in completing daily DD reports, BHA performance reports for each run, service tickets, and relevant paperwork including well data spreadsheet, lessons learned or best practice, End of Job Customer Survey (EJCS), and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) forms
  • Be familiar with DD aspects of the client’s approved drilling program
  • Assist in inspecting all DD company equipment delivered to the work site
  • Interface with the MWD engineer to ensure BHA compatibility, confirm planned operating parameters are within specification, and ensure correct toolface references are applied
  • Maintain records of all DD equipment at the well site including dimensional data and condition
  • Ensure equipment is laid out after use according to company procedures and prepared for backload at the end of the job
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of field experience in Directional Drilling, L/MWD, or SDL
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline is preferred
