GRIPS Japan Scholarships 2025

The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) is offering scholarships to outstanding students from countries around the world so they can further their studies in Japan starting from the 2025 academic cycle.

Japanese Government (MEXT) and global organizations like JICA and the World Bank sponsor these fully funded scholarships for the students to undertake Master’s and PhD programs at GRIPS. It provides tuition fee coverage, including monthly stipends, travel expenses, and health insurance.

National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) is a government-owned graduate school situated in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. The institute which is the second smallest by enrollment among national universities in the country, was founded in 1997. It focuses on critical policy issues in economics and politics.

Tuition Fees

International students admitted into Japanese universities pay different tuition fees depending on the institution and course of study. The tuition fees that they pay on average range from $4,500 to $9,000 per year for undergraduate programs. Moving to the graduate programs, typically, students pay between ¥500,000 to ¥1,500,000 tuition fees per year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must;

  • Be international students
  • Have bachelor’s degree, for master’s program and 5-year Ph.D programs
  • Have master’s degree, for 3-year PhD programs
  • Meet the institute’s entry requirements

Scholarship Benefits

The benefits attached to the 2025 GRIPS Scholarships are as follows;

  • Award of ¥642,960, covering the recipient’s full annual tuition fees
  • Stipend: Monthly financial support for living expenses, including accommodation and personal costs.
  • Round-trip airfare from your home country to Japan.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance coverage.

  • Download the application form from the portal
  • Complete the application form
  • Fill out and submit the online registration form
  • Send the required documents by post
