Rema angrily abandons concert in Atlanta, says they disrespected him [Video]

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, caused a stir at a music event in Atlanta, USA after he stormed off the stage during his performance.

A video which is circulating on the internet shows when the ‘Calm Down’ crooner abruptly ended his show and walked off the stage in anger.

Rema expressed his displeasure with the venue management’s unsatisfactory set up of the event. He had only performed two songs after getting on stage before he decided to leave midway.

The singer was unhappy about the heat inside the venue and he blamed the show organisers, saying that they had shown disrespect not just towards him but also towards Afrobeats as a genre.

He, however, addressed the attendees before leaving the stage and apologised to his fans after which he promised to reschedule his show in Atlanta.

Popular Nigerian songstress, Yemi Alade recently dismissed a fan for saying that Wizkid deserves credit for making BET to start giving African musicians their awards on stage.

It all started after the 2023 BET Awards when Yemi noted that eight years after she complained about Africans being made to receive their awards backstage, that it no longer happens.

CorrectNG recalls that Yemi and Wizkid complained in 2015 about the way BET organisers were treating musicians from Africa.

The ‘Johnny’ crooner tweeted; “8 years later ,we no longer receive awards back stage at award ceremonies.

We are on the main guest lists and Our categories are not skipped on live TVor feed/streams. 2015 and2016 was a different time. Thank you BET for stepping up!!! Afrobeats to the world.”

In reaction, the man rephrased a part of her tweet and inserted Wizkid’s name suggesting that he should be the one to get the accolades.

“Let me rephrase “Thank You Wizkid for fighting for African artistes to be respected. If Wiz didn’t reject BET backstage award that year, it would’ve still been happening,” he wrote.

However, Yemi Alade challenged the fan and said he was trying to rewrite the past. She recalled being blacklisted for saying the truth.

The singer wrote; “No matter how you want rewrite the past, YOU SIMPLY CANNOT!Selective omittion is still false information. I was blacklisted and still am for saying the truth… I’m not gifting you with silence today,try tmrw.”
