“It’s special to be the first Nigerian here” – Ejuke speaks after joining Sevilla

Super Eagles winger, Chidera Ejuke has expressed delight following his move to Spanish club, Sevilla FC.

Ejuke was announced as the lastest signing of the Rojiblancos on its website on Monday, June 17, joining the team on a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old said it feels special being the first Nigerian to wear the colours of the former Europa League champions.

The Nigeria international whose contract with Russian giants, CSKA Moscow expired at the end of the season, hopes playing for Sevilla will help him earn a recall to the Super Eagles.

He told the club’s website; “It is special to be the first Nigerian here. I think I feel good being part of this team and I am looking forward to seeing what I can contribute to the team.

“I also hope to be able to back with Nigeria, because obviously it’s always nice to represent your country, so I hope it’s time to do it again and I’m also very excited.”

Nigerian goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali recently said that Chippa United is ready to allow him join a bigger club this summer.

Nwabali, was unseeded by Namibian goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua at the start of the season and has not looked back since then.

The 27-year-old has been a subject of transfer speculation following his impressive performance for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON. He also made two penalty saves in the shoot-out against South Africa in the quarterfinals.

In light of his impressive performances, Saudi club, El-Ettifaq, Sky Bet Championship side, Queens Park Rangers and Kaizer Chiefs are among the clubs reportedly interested in the shot stopper.

Speaking to Idiskitimes.co.za, Nwabali said; “The transfer window is going to open soon, but for me, I wish to take a step forward; I don’t know if it will be South Africa or Europe.

“I played well for my club [Chippa United] this season, they also wished me to go play in a bigger team. Even if it’s South Africa or Europe I will play. I’m not saying goodbye yet, most big teams are looking for me, and most people are looking for me.”
